Connect Kintsu to VS Code
Add Kintsu as an MCP server in VS Code and use it in the GitHub Copilot chat.
VS Code with GitHub Copilot uses MCP servers in the chat. With Kintsu added, the chat works on your site, from your project.
Before you start
Who in Kintsu: any role. VS Code only does what your role allows. As a designer, you need two-step verification.
Kintsu plan: any plan.
You need: VS Code with the GitHub Copilot AI features turned on, and a project folder open.
Add Kintsu
Open the Command Palette with Ctrl+Shift+P (⇧⌘P on a Mac) and choose MCP: Add Server.
Choose HTTP (HTTP or Server-Sent Events) and enter the address https://mcp.kintsu.be.
Enter kintsu as the ID.
Choose Global, then Copilot Global. Kintsu then works in all your projects.
VS Code asks whether you trust the server and whether it may sign in. Check that it's mcp.kintsu.be and agree.
Your browser opens a Kintsu window. Sign in with your Kintsu account and click Allow on Give an assistant access.
In the chat, ask: “Which sites do I have in Kintsu?” Approve the tool with Allow.
Did it work? The chat shows your organizations and your sites.
Prefer a file? You can also put Kintsu in the .vscode/mcp.json file of your project:
{"servers": {"kintsu": {"type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.kintsu.be"}}}
However, VS Code marks that location as deprecated. The steps above are the recommended way.
Choosing tools
You choose which Kintsu tools the chat may use through Chat: Open Customizations › Tools, or with Configure Tools in the chat.
Disconnect
In VS Code: in the Command Palette, choose Chat: Open Customizations, go to MCP Servers, click the three dots next to Kintsu and choose Uninstall. To turn it off temporarily, choose Disable.
Clear the sign-in: in the Command Palette, choose Authentication: Remove Dynamic Authentication Providers and remove Kintsu.
In Kintsu: go to Account › Connected apps and click Take access back next to VS Code. Its next request is refused.
Not working?
“invalid_client” or “Client not found”: choose Authentication: Remove Dynamic Authentication Providers, remove Kintsu and restart the server.
You don't see Copilot Global: check the GitHub Copilot requirements in the VS Code guide.
Something else: see Troubleshooting the MCP.
With your AI assistant
“Which texts on my site in Kintsu are not translated into French yet?”
As a designer: “Add the section from index.html as a new section on the home page of my site in Kintsu. Show me the report first.”
More ideas: Example requests for your assistant. VS Code's official guides: Add and configure MCP servers and Manage MCP servers.
Checked on 4 November 2026, against the VS Code documentation.
