A website subscription,or a web agency?

An agency builds your site in one go, for €1,500 to €8,000, and then you pay for hosting and maintenance. A subscription spreads that cost into a fixed monthly fee, usually on a one- or two-year contract. Here are the prices of Belgian agencies side by side, and six questions to ask before you sign.

One-off, from an agency

€1,500 to €8,000

€1,500 to €3,500 for a five-page small business site, €3,500 to €8,000 for ten pages or more. Each extra language costs 15 to 50% more. After that you pay for hosting (€10 to €50 a month) and maintenance (€40 to €150 a month). Over three years, a site of ten or more pages in three languages comes to roughly €7,100 to €20,700.

Subscription agency

€49 to €450 a month

Usually for one to fifteen pages in one language, with a few small changes a month. You often sign for 12 to 24 months. Sometimes there is also a setup fee (up to €1,399) or a buy-out fee (€750).

Before you sign

Six questions for every agency.

1. How many pages and languages are included?

Five pages in one language is a different product from a full site in two or three languages. At Jitware and Woovy, extra languages are quoted separately; Incrediweb charges €20 a month extra if you pay yearly.

2. Who writes the texts?

Having texts written often costs extra, per page or per article. Netween writes 2 to 6 articles a year, depending on the plan. Also ask whether new texts are translated.

3. What does a change cost?

How many changes are included in the price, and what does an extra hour cost? Pastel Studio includes three small changes a month, Netween 4 to 12 hours a year. And can you edit your texts yourself?

4. What else is in the monthly price?

Hosting, updates and security should be part of it. Also ask whether you get your own design or a template, and whether backups, forms and analytics are included. And what isn't included?

5. What do you pay up front, and how long do you sign for?

A low monthly price with a high setup fee is not cheap: Webmake charges €599 to €1,399 up front, Netween €149.99. A contract usually runs for twelve months, 24 at Webmake, and Jitware has no minimum term. Add everything up over three years, including any buy-out fee.

6. Who owns your site, now and in the future?

With some agencies, the site is only yours once you buy it out: €750 at Covents, a price set in advance at Woovy. Get it in writing: who owns the design, the content and the domain?

Our answers

With Kintsu you get a full site in three languages, with unlimited pages. Every month we suggest a new text, written with AI and translated, for you to approve. You make changes yourself, as often as you like, in the Site App or with your own AI assistant. Design, hosting and maintenance are included in the price, with no setup fee (see pricing). You can pay monthly and cancel anytime, and your site stays yours: your content and domain always, the design after twelve paid months.

To be honest: if you want someone to make every change for you, an agency with changes included in its price is a better fit. At Kintsu, a new feature or integration is an extension: you get a proposal with a price first.
